Five Auburn Takedown wrestlers combined with other Region 3 teams on Saturday to compete against other AYWO Regional teams for the youth state duals championships. Re: AYWO Region Championship Events
This week we head toward our REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS. I think most, by now, have an understanding of what we strive to accomplish--at this point in our growth as an organization--with our Region Assignments and Events … but let me reiterate so that we can all be on the same page as registrations occur this week.
- At this stage in our organizational development, Region Championships exist to help us define Dual Teams for the AYWO Dual Championship.
- Clubs are assigned to regions primarily by geographical location
(Webmaster's note: Takedown is in Region 3) - Adaptations have also been made (e.g., Ironclad in Region 2) in order to balance numbers and strength between regions. It's not an exact science, but we're striving to create as much balance as possible. The fact that some clubs may have to travel farther than others is an unfortunate side effect of this process. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience.
- You must wrestle at Regions if you want to be considered for selection for participation at the Dual Championship on Feb. 27th
- You will only be allowed to compete this weekend in your assigned region. If you attempt to register for a different region because it may be closer, you will not be allowed to compete, your registration will not be refunded, and you won't be considered for your region's dual squad. Please take care in registering properly.
- Wrestlers outside of AYWO CAN compete at an AYWO Region, this weekend, but they WON'T be allowed to compete at the Duals Championship. Only AYWO wrestlers are eligible.
- Each Region Director will work with coaches and teams in his area to compile the best two teams possible from their region (21 weight classes / 4 alternates / 25 total per team) Placement at regions neither guarantees nor precludes a spot on the dual team. Finishes from this weekend mainly give a good snapshot of what is available for the dual teams.
The many COVID restrictions and obstacles made it very difficult to promote dual format tournaments, but it is something we hope to encourage and support in the years to come. Please do all that you can to communicate our goals to your parents and teams. I think it's going to be an exciting weekend.

This will be our first tournament this season and is a Duals based format, meaning that wrestlers will be randomly assigned to a team; wrestlers will compete on assigned team against other teams created from the registrants for this tournament. This is an excellent opportunity for new wrestlers to meet others from across the state and experience wrestling in a laid-back, fun event before traditional tournaments begin. The focus is on wrestling etiquette, match format, and confidence building. Kid Duals is a great way to kick-off youth season for returning wrestlers with invaluable mat time. This tournament WILL count towards seeding for the Youth State Tournament so weigh-ins are required.
Wrestlers must have an AAU Card and pre-registration is required (link below). Registration will be first come – first serve, with a cap of 120 wrestlers. There will be NO manual registrations allowed on tournament day. Tournament fee is paid online and includes a T-shirt.

Month-to-month: $60

Youth (only) Season Special: $250

Daily Check-In Routine
- TeamSnap Health Check via TeamSnap
* Required within 8 hours prior to practice
- Nail / Skin checks at home
- Fever check at club: Must be below 100.4F
- Blood O2 level check at club: Must be above 94%
- Parents: Masks required if staying and allowed only in viewing room
COVID-19 Procedures
- Daily cleaning and sanitizing of mats, wall pads, and office spaces
- Wrestlers will be limited to groups of 4-5
- Clean gear (headgear and shoes) at home after practice

October Practice Schedule
- Youth: Mon/Tue/Thu 5-6 PM
- MS/HS: Mon/Tue/Thu 6:30-8:00 PM
- Sat: 9-11 AM (optional)
- Sun: Noon-2PM (open mat)
1) An AAU Wrestling or USA Wrestling membership is required. For this season, we recoomend the AAU card. Note that you’ll need a current membership for 2020-2021. Last year’s membership expired on Aug 31st.

Good news! We're preparing to get "Back-to-the-Mat" and invite you to join us for one of the following Zoom meetings. The first will be for youth (K-6) wrestlers, and the second for MS/HS (7-12 Gr) wrestlers.
If you aren't able to attend, we'll record it and have it available for viewing later.
