Wrestling Equipment
Shoes - A growing number of kids are coming to practice without wrestling shoes. Playing on a football field or a basketball court without appropriate footwear would be imprudent. Wrestling on a mat without shoes is just as foolish. Every move on the mat requires proper shoes to do correctly. Without shoes, wrestlers are not able to master the techniques to effectively compete. In addition, their teammates will not have the benefit of a useful partner when practicing moves and conducting drills. As an aside, wrestling shoes should only be used in wrestling facilities and never outdoors.
Headgear - Headgear is designed to primarily protect the ears from cuts, scratches, and inadvertent blows which can result in the dreaded “cauliflower ear”. A condition in which swelling develops from a blood clot under the skin. Treatment consists of draining the blood, treating the infection, and applying continuous pressure to prevent the fluid from reaccumulating in the area. Although optional this season, we highly recommend adding this vital piece of equipment to your child’s inventory. Beginning next year, we will require headgear for all practices, meets and tournaments.

Call for Volunteers and Coaches!
If you have a desire to get on the mat or assist behind the scenes, we could use your help! For those with (or even without) wrestling experience, you could be a coach! Training for youth wrestlers is rather rudimentary and can be picked up fairly quickly. For the most part, once you learn the basic rules, positions, and techniques, you can be an incredible asset to the team as well as to your wrestler!
If you prefer to work behind the scenes, volunteers can assist with organizing car pooling to tournaments, helping parents who are new to the sport, promoting events through social media, and fundraising (yes, I know, a four-letter word!). To continue buidling our program, we could also use help in attracting more participation and stronger community support through media promotions.
The bottom line: Volunteering provides an opportunity to be an active part of our young grapplers experience as they progress into junior high and high school. It also increase team cohesiveness and brings us together as a family. Please e-mail me if you would be willing to help. Any support will be appreciated!

Pike Road Classic Tournament Results!
What another great weekend! The team completed another great performance against an increasingly competitive field of young grapplers from around the state.
Here are the final results
1st Place: Karter Yielding, Ezra Brooks
2nd Place: Zachary Parks, Adam Plaisance, John David Pate
3rd Place: Kyle Milby, James Pate, Noah Krauss, John Mackey Adams
4th Place: Devin Ruiz, Justin Watson, La'Pone Jackson
Many strong performances from our young team were observed during Saturday’s tournament. However the highlight of the day came in the 8U 49 lbs finals. After wrestling a back and forth dual for nearly three minutes, Karter Yielding and his opponent battled to a tie with less than 10 seconds in the final period. Starting in the down position, Karter struggled to escape but was countered each time and brought back to the mat. The clock ticked down as the crowd anticipated a draw and consequent continuation into overtime. With time running out, Karter exploded with an extraordinary effort and escaped to gain the one point go-ahead to win the match!
Colton Milby, Will Ward, Wyatt Williams, and Brady Adams provided additional valiant performaces for the Auburn Takedown Team. I couldn’t be happier as to how well our team did this weekend. Congratulations to all!

Spartan Gladiator Tournament Results!
Parents - Thanks for supporting this season’s inaugural tournament! With over 200+ wrestlers, this was a great first look for our young grapplers who performed exceptionally well with nine of ten garnering a top 4 finish!
Here are the final results
1st Place: Ezra Brooks, Colton Milby, Zachary Parks
2nd Place: Devin Ruiz, Adam Plaisance
3rd Place: Konner Hartzog, Kyle Milby, Noah Krauss
4th Place: Brady Adams
While disappointed for not finishing on the podium, Wyatt Williams fought valiantly in an extremely tough bracket which was filled with a number of heavily experienced grapplers. We’re confident we’ll see Wyatt prove himself as the season rolls along! Overall I couldn’t be happier as to how well our team did this weekend. Congratulations to all!
